New Year and new beginnings

OK, so we are nearly three weeks into the New Year, but we have been busy!

Following on from my last post at the beginning of December, we have been finishing off the kitchen, Flooring has gone down and kickboards are on, although we are both now wondering if the floor colour was a good choice!!

Seems to be a lot of paw prints!!

Cooker hood and splash back went up too

Finally managed to get the conservatory up just in time to have Xmas dinner in it. finished at about 7pm on Xmas eve. Thank you Sam, for all your efforts!! Couldn’t have done it with out you

Flooring, electric’s, lights etc all to be done over the next few weeks

The observant ones amongst you will have noticed that the conservatory has changed. This was due to a couple of factors

Firstly the one we had bought, turns out it was a bit too wide and would have ended up right on next doors fence line. They were fine with it, but because we would have also had to get building regs done (due to the solid roof), it would have not passed these as needed to be 1m from the boundary(Not building regulations, could have gone to half a metre). Also the requirements for the dimensions of the foundations kept changing depending on who we spoke to so was starting to get stupid with the additional expense. This one is not as substantial, but doesn’t need planning permission, building regs or 4 tonnes of concrete. Maybe we will upgrade in coming years, but it is more than adequate for now.

Haven’t done a huge amount more to the house over Christmas, we took a few weeks off to have a bit of a break.

Kids came up for the holiday and Kaff’s brother and his kids made the journey up from Dorset for a few days over Christmas and Boxing day.

Good to see them and good time had by all.

Cats tried their hardest to wreck the tree, and succeeded to be honest!

Dixie did manage to strangle herself with one of the sets of fairy lights which ended up having to be cut from around her neck, down to eight lives left!!

Sam and Jodie went back home to have New Year with their friends

We had a quiet New Year’s eve, just spent a few hours with our neighbours and drunk way too much. Well I did!!

Cleared the Cabin/Office of junk and moved some boxes that had been dumped in there. Quick re-paint and some lino down so ready for building the empire!!

As always, just a few funny events over the last few weeks

Dixie went on adventure

Leading to us finding another mouse nest

Cats are fasinated with water, and love the sink!!

Charlie likes to watch, but doesn’t understand food hygeine!!

Buddy is still sleeping, bless the poor old boy

And Harley is still chasing balls whenever he can persuade us to go outside

Mouse score as of this morning stands at Charlie 1, Dixie 0.

Woken by Kaff at 4am this morning to be told that Charlie is playing with a mouse on the landing. Shut the bedroom door and went back to sleep. Found it this morning in the living room. Starting to earn their keep now.

Now that the kitchen is back, been doing some cooking too. Loving the new ovens.

Carrot Cake and a roast dinner and my Yorkshire puds (Not Aunt Bessies!) 🙂

Last one is a bread recipe from a Nordic Bakery book that Jodie got me for Xmas. Tasted great, but the following day, could have played frisbee with Harley with it!!

Had a surprise visitor for this time of the year in the garden too

Finally its another “what could go wrong here?” moment

And tonight’s sunset from the back garden!
