End of the year catchup

So it’s been quite a while, apologies

Last post was early summer, but been really busy through the summer and autumn, just haven’t found the time.

So firstly, a few images from the northern lights. Had an amazing evening and took literally hundreds of photos.

Decided a long time ago that we were not going to do Decking again after all the issues we had at the last house. Looks great for the first 6 months and then it’s a constant battle to prevent it becoming an ice rink, so decided on an Indian Sandstone patio. That got started in August and we finished laying slabs in early October. Still got to do the pebbles around the edges, but ran out of decent weather. Looks good though

We have also been getting the living room sorted, as was starting to get us both down, being the main room of the house, where we spend every evening and was still a complete mess with way too many reminders of the previous owners

Filled over the old fireplace, plastered the whole room, coving, skirting boards and lots of coats of paint and finally carpet

Dogs seem to love the new carpet, just need to add the door and it’s done

Had some issues with our caravan and so that ended up going back to Oldham caravans ( Don’t ever buy a caravan from them!). Have now bought a lovely 2009 Compass Corona which we are really happy with and after several trips to Dorset with it over the summer we have also upgraded the tow car as the Jeep was beginning to struggle with the long journeys. Now towing with a 2009 Range Rover Vogue. It’s a shame to let the Jeep go as it’s been very reliable, but it was starting to show its age.

With the new patio going down it was an opportunity to get the back door relocated so the drain was outside and not under the door frame ( God only knows why that was ever thought to be a good idea)

Now have new stable door, just got handle and cat flap to go in. That’ll happen this week

Now that we have pretty much done the garden reclamation and landscaping ( for now, at least)

Here is the final list of what has been dug up

Spanners, Screw drivers, Scissors, Knifes, Forks, Spoons, Padlocks, Nails, Screws, Mole grips, Pincers, Garden Forks, Bulbs, Wine glasses, Vodka bottle, Sink, Pedestal, Teapot, Golf club, Drill bits, Go kart brake pads, Lamps, Tent pegs, Bathroom scales, Fish tanks, Pliers, USB cables, Batteries, Camera, Light fittings, Tonnes rubble, 1984 can of lager, 1982 pot noodle pot, Scalextric track, TV Remotes

There may be more, but cannot remember

Also, in terms of bulk stuff, we have done some shifting this year too

3.7 tonnes rubble gone ( went on the weigh bridge where we dropped it)

Approx 8 tonnes of sand under the patio

1.8 tonnes of concrete under the conservatory and I reckon about 4 tonne of top soil moved too. Can’t say I feel any fitter though

Finished the bottom fence with some home made gates

At this time of year there are a lot of migrating birds coming in and out of the UK and a lot seem to “overnight” on The Fens, so for about a week we had a huge flock of geese staying on the field out the back

Drove the cats nuts 😂

They didn’t get any though

Talking of cats

As you know we have 4 now, all are out and about and I have completely lost count on the tally chart of kills, but the list includes, Mice, Shrews, Rats, Moles, Blackbirds, Rabbits, Starlings, Pigeons, Dragon Flies, but no Geese😂

Feeding time at the zoo

I will try and post a bit more regularly, we still have plenty to do next year so loads to report

Until next time…
